Frecuencia de Síntomas de Depresión en Pacientes Adolescentes con Epilepsia, Limitaciones

Los resultados de este estudio solo son aplicables únicamente a los grupos de adolescentes estudiados por lo cual no podemos generalizar los datos a una mayor población.

A pesar de ello los datos son tan contundentes que es recomendable ampliar este tipo de estudios a otras instituciones y otras poblaciones para tener un contexto más real de la depresión y la epilepsia en nuestra ciudad y de ser posible en nuestro país.

Lo ideal sería realizar un estudio multicentrico que amplié el tamaño de muestra para poder analizar la asociación real de otras variables con los síntomas de depresión que permitan caracterizar mejor los grupos de riesgo.

No se analizaron datos sociales ya que hacían parte de otro proyecto asociado a este que se desarrollo previamente por la Dra. Ana María Shapiro, Psiquiatra Infantil [123].

Consideraciones

Este estudio nos permitió obtener resultados importantes para las dos instituciones, que dada su complejidad deben atender casos más complejos y con mayores comorbilidades.

Es necesario desarrollar un protocolo para diagnóstico precoz de esta comorbilidad y de ser posible complementar el análisis con la búsqueda de otras entidades psiquiátricas concomitantes con la epilepsia que sean susceptibles de tratamiento para mejorar la calidad de vida de los pacientes.

A largo plazo se requiere un seguimiento de todos los casos con o sin depresión para ver su
evolución, la respuesta al tratamiento iniciado y su pronóstico.

El diagnóstico precoz es importante pero es también necesario conocer las diferentes opciones de tratamiento, sus indicaciones y posibles complicaciones [30, 124-130].
